Indie Author Project and Ingram Present Survey Findings

Indie Author Data Collaboration Aims to Enhance Understanding of Relationship Between Indie Authors and Public Libraries

May 20, 2024

From November 15, 2023 to December 29th, 2023, Ingram Content Group surveyed library staff members across the US and Canada on behalf of the Ingram Library Services (ILS) team as part of the Indie Author Project (IAP) Data Collaboration. This was part of a joint initiative aimed at gaining deeper insights into the direct connections between independent authors and public libraries.

For self-published authors hoping to get their books into libraries, there’s heartening news.

Matia Query, Publishers Weekly

Participants were asked six questions gauging their interest in supporting indie authors and their local creative economy. Over 300 library staff members responded, telling us what we already know: libraries are incredibly invested in supporting indie authors.

The survey results also underscored the opportunity for libraries and independent authors to strengthen their relationships, as more patrons are turning to libraries to find curated indie content.
