Trade Reviews: Why They Still Matter and How to Get Them

In this session, Foreword Reviews Editor in Chief Michelle Schingler and Founder/Publisher Victoria Sutherland discuss the new “review economy” and what that means for indie authors. We’ll talk about the difference between trade and consumer publications, the importance of pre-publication and details on submissions to the trade, the value of producing good tip sheets and also discuss the fee for review services that most trade publications offer in addition to their regular reviews. Foreword was founded in 1998 as the first trade magazine to focus exclusively on indie books and publishers. The magazine now reaches 36,000 booksellers and librarians annually, with 300,000 readers perusing reviews online each year.
