The 2025 Indie Author Project Annual Contest opens for submissions on April 1st!

8th Annual Indie Author Project Contest

Great news for indie authors! The Indie Author Project (IAP) Annual Contest is back with an exciting, genre-focused format designed to spotlight the best in independent publishing. This year’s competition invites indie-published ebooks from authors across the U.S. and Canada, offering a unique opportunity to gain recognition, reach new readers, and connect with library audiences.

This year, the awards will honor the best indie-published ebooks in eight genres:

  • Mystery/Thrillers
  • Romance
  • SciFi
  • Fantasy
  • Historical Fiction
  • General/Contemporary Fiction
  • Memoir
  • Young Adult

One winner and two honorable mentions from each genre will be selected. Each genre winner will receive $2,500 and honorable mentions will receive $500. Out of all of this year’s winners identified by librarian judging committees, one Indie Author of the Year will be chosen by a team of industry professionals.

This contest offers a unique opportunity for indie authors to elevate their careers, expand their readership, and gain credibility in the competitive digital publishing landscape.

For libraries eager to support local writing communities, a suite of promotional materials, including press release templates and social media blurbs, is available. Additionally, those with a passion for reading and drive to be even more involved can sign up to become contest judges.

The contests will run from April 1st through May 31st and authors can learn more and submit their book(s) (for free). Don’t miss the chance to be part of this exciting literary event!
